STEP 1: What Is Form I-765?
π Form I-765 is the application for a U.S. work permit β officially called an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). It gives you the legal right to work while your immigration case is being processed.
This form is used by applicants in many categories, including:
- β Green card applicants (Form I-485)
- β Asylum seekers (after 150 days)
- β Parolees (such as Ukrainians under U4U)
- β TPS holders
- β DACA recipients
π‘ If you're applying for a green card and file Form I-765 with your I-485, you can usually get the work permit at no extra cost. See our Adjustment of Status guide.
